Eddie George's name is already being floated in Tennessee, and for good reason.

The Titans fired head coach Brian Callahan on Monday but didn't name an interim replacement, sparking instant speculation that the former franchise legend could be in play. George is currently the head coach at Bowling Green, where he's making around $600,000 per year, per Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk. His buyout would reportedly cost about $2 million, but that might not scare off an NFL team looking for a jolt — or a headline.
George has been tied to NFL coaching jobs before, even interviewing during the most recent cycle. A return to Nashville, where he's still revered, would make for a story straight out of Hollywood. Whether he'd actually leave Bowling Green is another matter.
In the meantime, the Titans haven't said who's taking over on an interim basis. Callahan's firing came with no immediate successor, leaving the organization scrambling just six days before facing former coach Mike Vrabel, now of the Patriots.
There are a few internal options, but none obvious. Senior offensive assistant Mike McCoy, a former Chargers head coach, might be the safest choice. Bill Callahan, Brian's father and the team's offensive line coach, has head-coaching experience too — but that would be an awkward twist even by NFL standards.
And then there's Mike McCarthy, who's available after parting ways with Dallas and has ties to Titans president of football operations Chad Brinker from their Green Bay days.
For now, the Titans are a team without a coach and with a growing list of possibilities, starting with one of their all-time greats.
