Late Drag Racer Goes for Final Ride Down Drag Strip in Hearse

Back on November 2, 2018, drag racer Frank Palumbo tragically lost his battle with brain cancer on November 2.

As the perfect send-off ahead of Frank's funeral, his son Ronnie — who raced for the renown ACDelco Slammer Drag Racing Team, which Frank played a major part in forming — organized one final ride down the drag strip for his dad, according to The Drive.

With more than 1,200 family, friends, and fans gathered at Sydney Dragway, onlookers watched as the hearse containing Palumbo was driven down the strip, along with an SUV that towed a trailer securing one of his team's race cars. It marked the ultimate tribute to a man who had given so much to the sport of drag racing.

While the ACDelco team did a fantastic job in honoring Frank in death, they pulled out all the stops to honor him in life as well. Several months after his cancer diagnosis earlier in 2018, team members came together and found out a way for Palumbo to ride in his favorite class of drag racer, Australia's Pro Slammer, which for those not familiar, is akin to the Funny Cars found in the United States.

If you don't get at least a little but emotional while watching this, then I really don't know what to tell you.

While Frank Palumbo's of course marks a heartbreaking blow to the racing community, it's also incredibly touching to see him honored in the way he was, and it's clear that he made a crucial impact on drag racing as a whole.

In lieu of flowers, Palumbo urged funeral attendees to donate to the Cure Brain Cancer Foundation.
