The RFK Racing co-owner revealed on Friday afternoon that he had broken his leg while on a ski trip with his family. Keselowski underwent a successful surgery to put him on the road to recovery.

Neither Keselowski nor RFK Racing revealed the extent of the injuries. They did not detail the bones that the veteran driver broke.

RFK Racing did not share the information Thursday due to the tragic deaths of Greg Biffle and six others in a plane crash in Statesville. However, the team provided the update about Keselowski on Friday in the interest of transparency.

"I'm grateful for the medical team who took great care of me and for the support system around me," Keselowski said in a statement.

"My attention now is fully on recovery. I'm motivated to get back to full strength as quickly as possible and will work relentlessly to be ready for Daytona."

The timeline for Keselowski's recovery remains unclear. He will likely have to take part in physical therapy while pushing toward a return to the track.

The 2012 Cup Series champion made a point to post a video showing him taking a few steps forward on Friday, albeit with the assistance of a walker.

Only 58 days remain until the season-opening Daytona 500, which caps off a busy Speedweeks schedule also featuring qualifying and the Duel races.

Keselowski, who turns 42 during 2026 Speedweeks, has competed full-time in the NASCAR Cup Series since the 2010 season. He has never missed a start at NASCAR's top level while piling up 35 of his 36 wins and the 2012 Cup Series championship.

What he has done, however, is deliver success after sustaining another injury. Back in 2011, Keselowski broke his ankle. He then went to Pocono Raceway four days later and won his second race of the season after taking the lead from Kyle Busch in the closing laps.

Two other prominent Cup Series champions have broken their legs and missed races in the past decade. Back in 2015, Busch broke his leg during the season-opening Xfinity Series race. He missed 11 Cup Series races before returning to the No. 18 Toyota and winning the championship.

Back in 2023, Chase Elliott broke his leg in a snowboarding accident the week of the Las Vegas spring race. He missed six races due to the injury and a seventh due to a suspension.
