Racing in NASCAR has always been a family affair for the Elliotts. Bill Elliott famously started in NASCAR running for his family team with his brother Ernie as his crew chief.
That pairing resulted in a lot of memorable moments in NASCAR, can Chase Elliott and his new spotter do the same?
The Elliott family dynamic will return in 2024, as Chase Elliott looks to rebound from an awful 2023 season. His No.9 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet team will feature a new full-time spotter who he knows well. Chase's cousin, Trey Poole, will take over after long-time Hendrick spotter Eddie D'Hondt departed for Stewart-Haas Racing's No. 4 team with rookie Josh Berry.
Bob Pockrass from Fox Sports was the first to report that Poole is the new spotter for the No. 9 in 2024. Pockrass broke the news via his X page.
"Trey Poole, Chase Elliott's cousin who has spotted for him on road courses and various other races, will be his full-time spotter in 2024," Pockrass wrote.

As Pockrass mentioned, Poole has previously been a second spotter for Elliott at the road-course events. He even subbed for D'Hondt in 2021 when he was suspended for an incident away from the racetrack.
Elliott went winless in 2023 and seemed to have plenty of races go against him throughout the season after missing seven races due to injury and a suspension.
A new spotter seemed likely, and with Poole taking over the full-time spot, that gives Elliott a chance to get back to where he needs to be to compete at the highest level in 2024.
Along with having had his shoulder repaired after racing the past several years with an undiagnosed torn labrum, a new spotter could go a long way towards getting NASCAR's most popular driver back in Victory Lane.
