Defending Champion Spotter Joins Trackhouse Racing

After previously announcing in December that he would be departing Team Penske as a spotter for Ryan Blaney's No. 12 team, the defending champion spotter has announced his new employer.

Josh Williams, who helped spot Blaney to the 2023 Cup Championship, will be making the jump to Trackhouse Racing in 2024. He spent nearly a decade working with Blaney and guided the now 30-year-old driver to 10 career cup victories.

Williams will be atop the spotter's stand for Cup rookie Zane Smith as he embarks on his first full-time Cup season in the No. 71 Chevrolet for Spire Motorsports.

This move will be challenging, but Williams seems to be ready for it. He has spotted for Smith the past four seasons in the Craftsman Truck Series.

Williams made the news official with a post on his X page and appears to be very excited about the new job.

"New year, new house!' Williams said. "Couldn't be more excited to announce my new home with @TeamTrackhouse! I really admire the culture that @JustinMarksTH and Ty Norris have built in just a few short years at TH. Watching the growth and atmosphere is something I want to be a part of and continue to drive forward! It's an easy fit already being with @zanesmith the last 4 years in the truck series to help with that transition into full-time cup racing which will be a challenging but rewarding task! With that and the collab with @SpireMotorsport, I will spend 2024 with Zane on the 71 car! Looking forward to working with those guys and beginning the next chapter! Thanks to everyone at Trackhouse and Spire for the opportunity, let's get to work!"

It's a huge deal for Williams, the team, and especially, Smith — Williams is one of the best spotters NASCAR has to offer and having Williams' familiar voice in his ear as a rookie in the Cup series will be a huge advantage.
