Two drivers did not have the opportunity to qualify at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Josh Berry and Noah Gragson both crashed during Saturday's practice session after apparent tire issues. They will line up 35th and 36th, respectively.
"I wasn't sure if it was the left-rear or the right-rear," Berry said after exiting the care center. "I thought it was the left-rear, but when I got loaded up into one and two on the bottom I just felt a few vibrations and then it was gone.
"I definitely didn't feel it coming otherwise I would have come in, so it was unfortunate to have that happen. The guys will work hard this evening and get us a car together and we'll do the best we can tomorrow."
Hamlin has won the pole five times this season. He has won three races from the pole this season — Nashville Superspeedway, Michigan International Speedway, and Pocono Raceway.
This is his second pole win at Las Vegas Motor Speedway in what will be his 30th start at the Nevada track. He last won the pole during last season's playoff race. He went on to win after leading nine laps.
He then started second in this season's spring race before leading 134 laps and winning once again. Now, he will start from the pole while seeking his third consecutive win at the track.
"It is important, and the races that we've really succeeded well here, we've started up front," Hamlin said about winning the pole.
"And, so yeah, I mean, today was executed by the team perfectly, how we approached the week, and the adjustments we made to the car for temperature seemed to be really good changes, and I couldn't ask for today to go a whole lot better than it did."
