Williams has long driven the No. 92 at DGM Racing, and famously parked his car on the front stretch at Atlanta Motor Speedway earlier this season, which resulted in a one-race suspension.
This will be a major upgrade for Williams who has done things his own way throughout his racing career. He got the best out of the No. 92 and now has an incredible opportunity to prove his worth by taking over the seat of the 2021 Xfinity Series champion Daniel Hemric, who will move up to the Cup Series next year.
Williams is one of the more respected drivers in the Xfinity garage and this move could easily put him in a position to break through and win a race in the near future. A win by Williams would be pretty popular throughout the series.
Williams spoke about the opportunity during an appearance on Sirius XM NASCAR Radio.
💭 "There's a place to move forward, and progress in my career, and I'm looking forward to that opportunity."

"We started having just small conversations in the middle of the year last year just trying to see where we needed to be and the best way to go about it," Williams said. "Made sure that we were a fit, you know, for our partners as well. Kaulig's got a great program going on, a lot of cool things, and really great people. We felt like I would be a good fit over there and we just kept the conversations alive."
Williams was overjoyed to get the deal done.
"Put things together on our side that we needed to do to make this all possible and we finally got it finalized here a couple of months ago and got everything ready to rip and, man I tell you what, I'm super excited. It's been a long road for me and it's every racer's dream to get an opportunity to go win races and run up front and get on the big stage."
He could be on a similar path to Josh Berry, who earned a big Xfinity ride with JR Motorsports well into his career. Berry used that opportunity well and will be the driver of the No. 4 for Stewart-Haas Racing in the Cup Series, replacing the retired Kevin Harvick beginning in 2024.
This is a great opportunity for Williams for sure - one that he has anticipated for a long time.
