Justin Allgaier Breaks Through for Career-First at Pocono

Justin Allgaier has achieved a massive amount in a NASCAR career dating back to the early 2000s, yet he celebrated a career-first moment on Saturday evening at Pocono Raceway.

The driver known as Lil Gator avoided the carnage of a wreck-filled race, and he won for the very first time at Pocono in his 11th start there. He also boosted his regular-season lead to 250 points after fellow contenders Corey Day and Jesse Love crashed on the opening lap.

Allgaier didn't have the best car on Saturday afternoon. That distinction appeared to belong to Sam Mayer. However, the NASCAR veteran had a car capable of running in the top five all race long. He used this car to score 16 stage points before taking the lead from Mayer in the closing laps.

The race came to a halt after a three-car crash brought out the red flag, but once it resumed with two laps remaining, Allgaier used a big push from William Byron to clear for the lead. Meanwhile, Mayer lost his pusher as Sheldon Creed dove to the bottom to take the field three-wide.

Rookie Brent Crews finished second while Byron, Mayer, and Creed rounded out the top five. The rest of the top 10 included Anthony Alfredo, Rajah Caruth, Brandon Jones, Connor Zilisch, and Carson Kvapil.

For someone who has the sixth-most wins in O'Reilly Auto Parts Series history, it could come as a surprise that Allgaier hasn't won at a track where he has more than 10 starts. Yet, this was the case with Pocono Raceway before Saturday's race.

Allgaier had finished twice at the track two different times (2017, 2024) and third one time (2021), but he had fallen short of victory lane.

He snapped that winless streak with his late restart, and he cruised to his fifth win of the 2026 season. He has now tied his career-best mark for seasons in a win, which he set in 2018. Now, it appears he has a lock on the regular-season championship.
