The two-time Cup Series champion appeared on wife Samantha's podcast Certified Oversharer and revealed the extent of his injury. As he explained, he took a tumble while trying to fix a smoke detector.

"We find out it's the one right outside Brexton's room," Busch explained. "It's a shorter ceiling than normal and so I'm like, 'Man, I'm so close. I can almost reach it.'"

The Richard Childress Racing driver continued and explained that he grabbed a nearby stool, one that provided approximately an extra 18 inches of height. As he stood on that stool, it "exploded" and caused him to tumble.

At first, Busch thought he had avoided injury. He had landed on his feet. But then Brexton told him that he was bleeding.

"As soon as he said, 'You're bleeding,' I look down and I look and it's not like you're bleeding like a nosebleed. It is like pouring like you're gushing. Instantly, I was like, 'This is hospital grade.'"

The day continued with a trip to the emergency room. Samantha drove while Busch propped up his leg and used garage towels to soak up the blood.

This injury, which occurred the week before the Clash at Bowman Gray Stadium, could have knocked Busch out of the series for a period of time. However, he noted that the cut missed the muscle and only hit the fat on his leg. Thus, he had the ability to race after receiving 24 stitches.

The veteran Cup Series driver has suited up for every race this season after getting the stitches in his leg. He has also taken on a Craftsman Truck Series race, which he won.

Busch will continue to make starts for Richard Childress Racing as he continues his steady march toward 800 career Cup Series races. Next up will be a return home as he takes on Las Vegas Motor Speedway. This is a track where he has celebrated one Cup win, two O'Reilly Auto Parts Series wins, and four Craftsman Truck Series wins.
