The sanctioning body has canceled practice and qualifying sessions for both the O'Reilly Auto Parts Series and Cup Series. Additionally, NASCAR has moved the O'Reilly Auto Parts Series race to Sunday. It will now take place at 8 p.m. ET on CW after the end of the Cup Series race (3 p.m. ET on USA Network).

NASCAR set the starting lineup for both races using the qualifying metric. Carson Kvapil will start on the pole for the O'Reilly Series race with Corey Day on the front row. Kyle Larson will start on the pole for the Cup Series race with Chase Briscoe on the front row.

Updated Charlotte Motor Speedway Sunday schedule:

  • 8 a.m. - Parking Lots Open
  • 9 a.m. - Fan Zone Opens
  • 11 a.m. - Tim Dugger Concert
  • 12 p.m. - Suites and Ticket Gates Open | Trackside Live and Fan Track Access Begin
  • 1 p.m. - Tyler Hubbard Concert
  • 2:35 p.m. - NCS Driver Introductions
  • 3 p.m. - Bank of America 400 NCS Race
  • 8 p.m. - Blue Cross NC 300 NOAPS Rac

According to NASCAR, "Saturday's Blue Cross NC ticket holders will be allowed into the grandstands following the Bank of America 400 checkered flag.

"At that time, Saturday ticket holders will have first priority for reserved seating for the rescheduled Blue Cross NC 300, and Sunday ticket holders may sit in any open seat."

This marks the fourth time in the Chase that weather has canceled practice and qualifying for the Cup Series drivers. The first occurred at Darlington Raceway. The second occurred at Bristol Motor Speedway. The third occurred at Kansas Speedway.

The lack of practice is something that drivers have familiarity with due to the 2020 COVID-altered season, so they have no problem racing without first spending 50 minutes making laps around the track.

However, many would prefer to at least have qualifying for different reasons. Even if they have to show up early on Sunday and qualify before taking the green flag.

"We should be practicing, we should be qualifying," Christopher Bell said on Saturday. "It's the NASCAR Cup Series, more so qualifying to practice. Like if we don't want to practice, that's fine.

"But we're the top level of auto racing in America. Like you're not going to see other top forms of motorsports line the race up without qualifying. So yeah, I think that we should put more effort into qualifying."
