Sabrina Ionescu Catches Fire With Insane 3-Point Contest Performance

New York Liberty star Sabrina Ionescu couldn't miss during the WNBA 3-point contest, making 25 of 27 shots in one round.

In one of the most impressive shooting performances in WNBA history, New York Liberty star Sabrina Ionescu was lights out during the WNBA three-point contest at the league's All-Star weekend.

Along with making her second straight WNBA All-Star appearance, the 25-year-old was invited to participate in the league's three-point contest on Friday, July 14. Not only did Ionescu dominate the competition to win the event, but she also made 25 out of 27 possible shots in a single round in what was the most impressive round ever seen by an NBA or WNBA player. Her 37 points in the final round were a WNBA record.

Although there's still plenty of season left for Ionescu and the Liberty, the former Oregon Ducks superstar is enjoying one of the most satisfying years of her young WNBA career.

Ionescu isn't setting career marks in scoring, but it's the efficiency in 2023 that has made her a more complete player. The 5'11" guard is averaging 16.4 points per game while shooting a staggering 44.6 percent from deep, far and away the best mark of her career. That efficiency helped her make it to her second consecutive All-Star selection, and hopefully another appearance on the All-WNBA team after being a second-team pick in 2022.

On top of her individual success, Ionescu is playing a key part in the Liberty's success. New York is currently on top of the Eastern Conference with a 14-4 record that included four straight wins heading into the All-Star weekend. If Ionescu can continue playing at a high level along with her teammates Breanna Stewart and Courtney Vandersloot, then the Liberty could be a legitimate title contender this season.

Until then, Ionescu is just enjoying a historic three-point contest victory.
