Five-star SF Taeshon Cherry announces his commitment to emerging college basketball program

A program-changing commitment.

He made the announcement on Twitter.

Cherry had been committed to USC since June of 2017, but backed off it after it was made clear the Trojans are part of the FBI investigation that has plagued college basketball.

A 6-foot-8, 210-pound forward out of San Diego, Cherry is ranked as the No. 22 overall recruit, the No. 8 small forward and the No. 1 player in California according to ESPN. He also had offers from Arizona, St. John's, Vanderbilt, California, Florida State, Gonzaga and Kansas among others.

For more context, the California native is ranked as the No. 7 player at his position and No. 2 recruit in his state as well as the No. 27 overall recruit in the class of 2018 according to the 247Sports Composite rankings.

Cherry marks Arizona State's second five-star prospect for the 2018 class. The talented forward will join fellow five-star Luguentz Dort on campus in the fall.

For the season, the Sun Devils are a surprising 14-3. Probably a quicker growth in the program's trajectory than most expected, it doesn't seem like anything is going to slow down anytime soon, as coach Bobby Hurley is doing damage on the recruiting trail.
