The Dallas Cowboys are better known as America's Team. On top of being the most valuable franchise in all of sports, holding a country-wide moniker means upholding an All-American look.

The star, the white jersey, the silver pants and helmet. It's simple, sharp and clean. Dallas Cowboys fans would love nothing more than for their team to don this look every Sunday. Unfortunately, it doesn't work like that.

Some game days the 'Boys have to wear blue. I felt the Cowboy faithful shudder as I typed that. Blue is a sour color in Dallas. They'll wear white unless they are forced not to. It's for good reason. The blue threads are said to be cursed.

The legend of the "bad luck blue" jerseys can be traced back to 1967.

The Cowboys lost the NFL Championship to the Green Bay Packers wearing, you guessed it, blue jerseys. Dallas reached Super Bowl V two years later to square off against the Baltimore Colts and wore blue again, this time losing 16-13. Thus, the curse became a part of NFL folklore.

In the NFL, home teams can choose to wear their official team color or white. They sport their official team color most of the time. The away team wears the opposite.

Some NFL teams, such as NFC East rivals Philadelphia Eagles and Washington Redskins (now Washington Football Team), flipped the formality on its head when the Cowboys would come to town. Philly and Washington were fully aware of the jinx and wanted any advantage they could get over Dallas. The funny thing is it worked.

The Eagles forced the Cowboys to wear blue in the 1980 NFC Championship game and won a playoff game for the first time in franchise history. Washington beat blue-wearing Dallas 31-17 in the same game two years later.

The Cowboys' Subpar Record in Blue Jerseys

Skeptic or not, the numbers back the theory up. Dallas is 72-76-1 in regular season games when wearing blue as of the publishing of this article. The franchise owns a much better overall 530-399-6 all-time record, which proves maybe the "bad luck blues" are actually cursed.

The 2021 season started off with a loss to the defending Super Bowl champ Tampa Bay Buccaneers in blue. They rebounded the next week by defeating the Los Angeles Chargers in the dark jerseys.

It should come as no surprise that the Cowboys wore white in each of their five Super Bowl wins. They even go as far as avoiding blue for their color rush uniforms. While most teams rock their primary color, the Cowboys wear all white. Fans will take that any day of the week.

The Dallas Cowboys are wearing white if they can help it. A home game at At&T Stadium in north Texas means Dak Prescott, Ezekiel Elliott, Amari Cooper, CeeDee Lamb, Trevon Diggs and Co. are wearing white jerseys and silver pants. An away game against the Los Angeles Rams, Arizona Cardinals, Cleveland Browns, Las Vegas Raiders, Baltimore Ravens, New England Patriots, Minnesota Vikings, New York Giants, Houston Texans or Seattle Seahawks may be a different case if the home teams wants to get an upper hand psychologically.

White jerseys have been the preferred uniform since the days of Tex Schramm to Roger Staubach to head coach Jimmy Johnson to Troy Aikman to Tony Romo and Dak Prescott. It's a certified fact that when the blue comes out, so does the voodoo.
