Spire Motorsports confirmed on Wednesday that Kahne will join the team for the full FedEd Freight Truck Series campaign. He will drive the No. 77 Chevrolet Silverado while competing for wins and the driver's championship.
This will mark his first full season in NASCAR since 2017 when he drove for Hendrick Motorsports and won the Brickyard 400. He only started 25 races in 2018 before stepping away from the sport due to health concerns.
He has spent the years since competing in sprint car racing while also running his team, Kasey Kahne Racing. Though he made a one-off return to the O'Reilly Auto Parts Series in 2025 to compete at Rockingham Speedway for Richard Childress Racing.
The rumors were true.

"This is one of the coolest announcements we've been able to make," said Spire Motorsports Co-Owner Jeff Dickerson. "Kasey is not only a legendary driver but is someone that Spire shares a long history with.
"Having him in one of our trucks running for a championship means a lot to our organization and we fully trust that he has the same competitive nature and drive to win that he's always had."
The Washington native has not made many starts in the Truck Series. In fact, he has only competed in six races between 2004-15. Yet, he won five of these races. This includes both starts during the 2004 season.
Kahne won twice at Darlington Raceway and once at Charlotte Motor Speedway, Homestead-Miami Speedway, and Rockingham Speedway. He finished second at Pocono Raceway in his other start.
"When Jeff (Dickerson) first asked me about running trucks for Spire Motorsports, I didn't think he was serious," said Kahne. "To be out of the sport for as long as I was and to have the opportunity to race for a strong FedEx Freight Truck Series team, or even full time in NASCAR again, was a bit of a surprise.
"The thought of a return to pavement racing and involvement in something that I was a part of for so long was exciting. It started sounding pretty good and I'm thankful for the opportunity to come back with a team that knows how to win."
