The Texas Tech Red Raiders are exceeding expectations this season. With head coach Chris Beard manning the helm, it isn't terribly shocking, as the former Little Rock Trojans coach tends to succeed at every place he's ever been.

That is the good. There is some bad. At least relatively speaking, as Beard told reporters he tore his ACL following a freak incident when his squad was playing Iowa State.
The Red Raiders would lose that game, but did defeat Oklahoma State only a few days later.
It isn't funny, but if we're being slightly honest about it, it actually is.
Beard was on the sidelines doing what coaches do, flailing arms around and yelling out directions to his players. Then, as if the basketball gods have a vendetta against the man, he went down as if he were punched square in the jaw by Mike Tyson.
NBC Sports college basketball writer Rob Dauster, who also previously profiled Beard, relayed the information about the ACL.
Beard's journey to Texas Tech is slightly strange. Not because he doesn't deserve it, but because he accepted the head coaching job at UNLV in March 2016, then changed his mind and went to the Red Raiders in April. Oddly enough, it has worked out for both programs, as Marvin Menzies is doing a great job of building the Rebels while Beard has Texas Tech hitting on all cylinders.
