Thanksgiving dinner is going to be a little awkward this year.
Former Nebraska fullback recruit Ben Miles, son of former LSU coach Les Miles, is transferring out of the Cornhuskers camp to play for Jimbo Fisher at Texas A&M. Under NCAA transfer rules, Miles will have to sit this season for the Aggies. After redshirting last year at Nebraska, Miles will return in 2019 with three years of eligibility remaining.
With the hiring of new head coach Scott Frost at the University of Nebraska, there's no need for a fullback in Frost's spread offense he brings from the University of Central Florida. Jimbo's staff is converting former players, and recruiting new ones, to fill the void on the Aggies current roster at the position. Fisher typically uses his fullback not only as a blocker, but also in a pass-catching capacity.
Both Fisher and Miles found each other just in time.
Miles attended Catholic High School in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. His play ranked Miles as a three-star recruit and earned the No. 2 overall fullback grade in the country by 247 Sports. Ben Miles was recruited by Mike Riley, who was recently named head coach for the new San Antonio franchise of the Alliance of American Football league. Riley was fired after three seasons at Nebraska last November.
Since leaving the LSU Tigers, Les Miles has been connected to several potential head coaching vacancies, only to turn his attention towards a broadcasting career with his 'Les Is More Podcast.' It appears as if Coach Miles could also be on the cusp of a promising acting career.
Texas A&M's 2019 recruiting class already ranks No. 2 nationally, with two five-star prospects and eight four-star recruits offering verbal commitments heading to College Station. The addition of Ben Miles into the mix means coach Jimbo Fisher is already on his way to getting the Aggies into position for an SEC title and potential College Football Playoff berth in the future.
