Herm Edwards is reportedly losing his third assistant coach in the last week

Just yikes.

Part of the public pitch for hiring Herm Edwards at Arizona State was that, aside from the loss of head coach Todd Graham, the Sun Devils had quite a bit of faith in the returning coaching staff and its ability to help Edwards return to the college game with a seamless transition. After only a (very) short time, that cohesion is basically out the window, as Edwards has already lost his two coordinators in DC Phil Bennett and OC Billy Napier and the hits keep coming.

This time around, Kaelen Jones of Sun Devil Source is reporting that offensive line coach Rob Sale is set to join Napier's staff at Louisiana-Lafayette. In the grand scheme, losing the O-line coach does not have the same cache as a coordinator defection but, in short, the entire plan seems to be out the window at this point in time.

Arizona State could certainly survive based on their reasonable talent level but, with an inexperienced head coach (at least in terms of circumstance), the job is difficult. The Sun Devils have announced that Rob Likens will transition into becoming the offensive coordinator but he'll now be without his offensive line guru and the uphill battle continues.
