Between 1944 and 1987, one of the biggest and most heated rivalries in college football pitted the Miami Hurricanes and Florida Gators every single year. Separated by about 350 miles, these universities boast dozens of first-round NFL Draft picks, combine for five Heisman Trophies and eight national championships, but most importantly, enough bad blood to fill Lake Okeechobee.
Since these schools' yearly rivalry ended, though, five of the last six meetings have been won by 'The U.' The only exception came during the 2008 football season when Tim Tebow's Gators triumphed in Gainesville, 26-3. For the first time since 2013, this rivalry is coming back, and I can't think of a better way than to ring-in college football's 150th season than a Sunshine State showdown in prime time.
The University of Florida and University of Miami will meet in Orlando, Florida for the Camping World Kickoff game on August 24, 2019. It'll be Dan Mullen's top-10 team taking on Manny Diaz's revitalized program in front of the entire country. And what better way to get pumped for a classic rivalry game than with a good, old fashioned hype video?
Shoutout to HypeTrain, who released this Florida-Miami hype video to get fans from Gainesville to Coral Gables ready to strap up and take the field this fall.
The days of "The Gator Flop" and "The Brock Berlin Game" helped build Florida vs. Miami into the rivalry it is today. And although these two teams don't meet on a yearly basis anymore, players on both these teams know each other from their high school football days in Florida. The bad blood between them is going to be on full display come August.
Buckle up, folks. It's the ACC vs. SEC at Camping World Stadium, and college football is coming.
