Manziel reached out to 4-star safety Leon O'Neal Jr., who decommited from A&M in December, about joining the Aggies' secondary.

O'Neal responded with the following:

Of course, Manziel didn't give up there.

Manziel has made headlines recently for an attempted football comeback, having negotiated with the Canadian Football League's Hamilton Tiger-Cats earlier this month, as well as openly expressing interest in the XFL revival via social media last week.

But now it seems he's turned his focus on recruiting O'Neal, a U.S. Army All-American who ranks as the No. 8 safety and the No. 75 overall prospect, according to the 247Sports Composite.

It's worth noting that the Texas native was expected to make his commitment announcement on Monday, but has pushed back his declaration following official visits to Clemson and Georgia during the past two weekends.

Manziel, a first-round draft pick in 2014, hasn't played professional football since being cut by the Cleveland Browns in March 2016. During two seasons, he threw for 1,675 yards, seven touchdowns and seven interceptions, while leading the Browns to a 2-6 record as a starter.
