12-Year-Old Hurdles Catcher for Game-Winning Run

Baserunners will do whatever it takes to score a run.

Some slide around the catcher. Some slide through their teammate's legs. Some just flatten him like Pete Rose famously did. Then, there's 12-year-old Grayson Davis, who figured out a slightly different way to score.

I've only seen a player hurdle a catcher a handful of times, but I'm not sure I've ever seen a kid who weighs 100 pounds soaking wet pull it off.

Ohio Elite Baseball player Grayson Davis took his lead off third with one thing in mind: scoring.

When a pitch popped out of the catcher's glove and trickled only a few yards away, the 12-year-old star bolted for home. The catcher quickly gobbled it up and beat Davis to home plate. The problem? He was blocking the runner by standing in the righty batter's box.

Davis did his best Olympic hurdler impression and jumped completely over him. He overshot his landing a bit but quickly turned around and got his hand in safely before he was tagged.

Naturally, everyone watching went berserk.

The players, fans, coaches and even the umpires were probably all in awe after that play. Most kids would probably just try to run or slide around the catcher in that situation, but not him.

According to his Perfect Game profile, Grayson is in the class of 2027 and is from Marysville, Ohio. The right-handed hitter is clearly a gifted athlete and outfielder if he's already full-on jumping over catchers at just 12 years old. He even posted a video of him hitting a home run from the same day.

I don't know if baseball is his main sport, but let's hope we see young Grayson playing at Ohio State and in MLB down the road. Then we can look back on this clip and say he was destined for greatness.
