Dave Portnoy Bets $200k On Philadelphia Phillies To Win World Series

The owner of Barstool Sports, Dave Portnoy recently called himself 'the hottest gambler on the planet,' as he has been on a betting hot streak, predicting correctly the winner of almost every major sports championship so far this year.

With this in mind, there was much anticipation surrounding who the 47-year-old will pick to win the 2024 World Series. Well, now you can lock it in, as Portnoy is taking the Philadelphia Phillies to win their third world championship (1980. 2008) this season.

To highlight Portnoy's winnings, it all started on New Year's Day, when he earned $1.5 million after Michigan won the 2024 college football national championship. Then in February, he made $500,000 when the Chiefs won the Super Bowl.

Next, he won $2.1 million betting on the NCAA men's basketball championship, picking UConn. The following week in April, Portnoy received $1.35 million, when Scottie Scheffler secured his Masters victory. Then most recently, Portnoy collected $1.6 million when his hometown team, the Boston Celtics, won the 2024 NBA Finals.

With all that being said, Portnoy's legendary run has come to an end, after the Florida Panthers defeated the Edmonton Oilers in Game 7 of the NHL Stanley Cup Finals.

To note, the business mogul had a $150,000 bet, which would have netted him $1.2 million if the Oilers won the championship.

"The streak ended last night," Portnoy wrote on X after the Oilers' 2-1 devastating loss. "I can't be mad at the Oilers. They gave it a great run... All good things must come to an end. Now it's time to start a new streak."

Considering his new streak, the Philadelphia Phillies currently have a 53-27 record, which is best in the MLB. The team has +450 odds to win the World Series, which is behind only the Dodgers (+320) and tied with the Yankees (+450) for being the betting favorites.

Led by Bryce Harper, Trea Turner, and Kyle Schwarber, and having an aces filled pitching staff (Zack Wheeler, Aaron Nola, Ranger Suarez), the Phillies score the 2nd-most runs per game (5.06), and give up the least amount of runs to opponents with a 3.06 ERA.

That is to say, in regards to the $200k bet on the Phillies to win it all, Portnoy will take home $1.4 million dollars if his prediction is correct.
