The Buffalo Bills have found their new head coach, but it is not any of the people who came in for interviews. The team is staying in-house and making a major promotion.

According to NFL insider Ian Rapoport, the Bills are promoting offensive coordinator Joe Brady. He will stay in Buffalo while agreeing to terms on a five-year deal. He will continue to work with Josh Allen while trying to break through what owner Terry Pegula called a "playoff wall."
Brady, 36, spent five seasons as an NFL offensive coordinator before landing this job as head coach. He led the Panthers offense in 2020 and 2021 while working with quarterbacks Teddy Bridgewater, Sam Darnold, Cam Newton, and PJ Walker.
Brady then moved to the Bills in 2023, where he has remained since while working with an offense led by MVP Josh Allen. This unit has ranked fourth, 10th, and fourth in yards gained over three seasons. It has ranked fourth, third, and fifth in points in the same span.
Running back James Cook led the NFL with 16 rushing touchdowns in 2024 and then he led the NFL last season with 1,621 rushing yards and 95.4 yards per game.
Allen has thrown 29 or fewer touchdown passes in each of his three seasons running Brady's offense, but he has rushed for 41 total touchdowns. This includes 14 last season.
The AFC East team, which fired head coach Sean McDermott after nine seasons, interviewed eight candidates before selecting Brady.
This includes Rams pass game coordinator Nate Scheelhaase, former NFL quarterback Philip Rivers, Broncos quarterback coach Davis Webb, Jaguars offensive coordinator Grant Udinski, Commanders running backs coach Anthony Lynn, Dolphins defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver, Colts defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo, and former Giants head coach Brian Daboll.
Now that Brady is in charge of the team, he will have two objectives. One is breaking through and reaching the Super Bowl after the McDermott-led team fell short eight times. The other objective is fixing a defense that struggled 28th against the run last season.
