The Kansas City Chiefs continue to ensure that the offensive roster will be mostly intact entering the 2026 NFL season. The team has re-signed wide receiver Tyquan Thornton.

According to Spotrac, the 25-year-old receiver signed a two-year, $11 million contract that will keep him in Kansas City through the 2027 season. This deal includes a $4 million signing bonus and $7.4 million guaranteed. He also has a $100,000 workout bonus available.
Prior to signing with the Chiefs, Thornton told media members that he didn't have the goal of going out and getting a huge payday. He sought a different experience.
"Going out there running fast, catching passes, dancing in the end zone, celebrating with my teammates, the process of putting the (work) in and going out there, seeing it all come to fruition, that's what it's all about for me," he said, per NFL insider Mike Garafolo.
This move follows an early end to Thornton's first season with the Chiefs. He only appeared in 14 games last season while starting four. He ended the year on Injured Reserve due to a concussion.
Prior to landing on IR, Thornton posted career-best marks across the board. He caught 19 passes for 438 yards and three touchdowns while averaging 23.1 yards per reception. He added 475 yards on kick returns.
Thornton originally entered the NFL as a second-round pick in the 2022 Draft. He spent the first three seasons of his career with the New England Patriots while working as more of a reserve player.
He appeared in 13 games across three seasons while posting 385 receiving yards and two touchdowns. He added another score on a rushing play.
Getting the offense back to full health will be a priority for the Chiefs after the team missed the playoffs. The team traded for quarterback Justin Fields to provide some insurance as Patrick Mahomes returns from a serious knee injury.
The Chiefs also brought back Travis Kelce after he spent the 2025 season facing questions about possible retirement.
Another key move for the Chiefs involved the running back position. The team signed Super Bowl 60 MVP Kenneth Walker away from the Seahawks.
