According to a Monday announcement, the Giants have "relieved" defensive coordinator Shane Bowen of his duties after the team lost to the Detroit Lions in overtime. This marked the fifth time this season that the Giants had blown a fourth-quarter lead of more than 10 points. This leads the NFL.

Outside linebackers coach Charlie Bullen will take over as defensive coordinator for the rest of the season and try to turn around a unit ranking 30th in yards allowed, 30th in points allowed, and 30th in takeaways.

"I have a lot of faith in Charlie and obviously these decisions aren't easy and Shane's a good person," interim head coach Mike Kafka said, per the team website. "He's a good man. He's a good coach.

"Just the results just weren't where we wanted them to be and so Charlie's going to step up for us and rally the group. The defensive staff will rally around Charlie and put together a great plan. I got a lot of confidence in the room and a lot of confidence in our staff to do that."

The Las Vegas Raiders chose to fire offensive coordinator Chip Kelly on Monday after a 24-10 loss to the Cleveland Browns. This loss took the Raiders to a 2-9 record and marked the sixth time this season that the offense scored 16 or fewer points. This includes a shutout against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Kelly, who won the College Football Playoff national championship last season as Ohio State's offensive coordinator, departed the college ranks to return to the NFL for the first time since the 2016. According to NFL insider Ian Rapoport, the team made him the highest-paid coordinator in the league.

The offense has not performed up to expectations despite the Raiders having rookie running back Ashton Jeanty in the backfield and tight end Brock Bowers making plays downfield. The Raiders rank 30th in total offense, 25th in passing offense, 30th in rushing offense, and 30th in scoring offense.

"I spoke with OC Chip Kelly earlier this evening and informed him of his release as offensive coordinator of the Raiders," head coach Pete Carroll said in a statement on Monday. "I would like to thank Chip for his service and wish him all the best in the future."
