The actor-driver is within reach of the GT4 America AM class championship. He and teammate Tyler Stone just need to close out the season this weekend at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course.
Muniz has split his season between competing mostly full-time in the Craftsman Truck Series and full-time in GT4 America. He has previously missed races at Watkins Glen International and Kansas Speedway. Now, he will miss the weekend at Charlotte Motor Speedway.
Muniz and Stone, who drive for TechSport Racing are atop the GT4 America AM driver standings with 168 points each. They have a one-point lead over fellow championship contenders James Clay and James Walker Jr., who drive the No. 36 BMW M4 GT4 for BimmerWorld.
These two teams have gone back and forth in the closing rounds of the GT4 America season. TechSport Racing swept the rounds at Road America in the Ford Mustang GT4 and then they won one of the rounds at Barber Motorsports Park.
BimmerWorld won earlier in the season during trips to Circuit of the Americas and Sebring International Raceway. This put Walker and Clay atop the standings, but Muniz and Stone made their late charge.
"Cannot explain how it feels heading to Indianapolis leading the points by 1 for the final race weekend of the GT4 America Championship," Muniz wrote on X ahead of the race weekend.
"After winning 3 of the last 4, we have real momentum going in to the weekend. Hate missing another NASCAR Truck race, but we're fighting for the championship in (GT4 America). Excited for everyone coming out to cheer us on. Gonna be a weekend to remember!! (Ford Racing)."
The race schedule features a test session on Wednesday, practice sessions on Thursday and Friday, and qualifying on Friday. The first race will be on Saturday, Oct. 10. The second race that determines the championship will be on Sunday, Oct. 11.
