BRISTOL, Tenn. — Corey Heim and Christian Eckes pushed back on the notion that the contact between them that sparked a wreck was at all intentional. They just viewed this as a racing deal.

"I kind of gave Christian a nudge to get (the lead), and I believe he misjudged it trying to get back in line and do the same to me, which would have been totally fine considering I had just done it to him," Heim said after exiting the infield care center.
"Assuming, giving him the benefit of the doubt that he misjudged it, I think I'm all good. It kinda...crap happens and you gotta move on from it."
Heim could have expressed anger after contact from Christian Eckes sent him into the outside wall and ended his shot at a $350,000 bonus at Bristol Motor Speedway.
He took a different approach while discussing the wreck that prevented a Triple Truck Challenge sweep. He had won the races at Darlington Raceway and Rockingham Speedway to bank $150,000. He needed one more win to take the total to $500,000 and become the first driver to ever sweep the Truck Series bonus races.

The wreck unfolded over two restarts during the final stage at Bristol Motor Speedway. Heim used the bumper to move Eckes up the track as they battled for second place behind Kyle Busch. Once he took second place, he began trying to chase down Busch.
Meanwhile, Eckes' team said over the radio to "go punt his ass." The caution then flew and provided Eckes' team with another opportunity to discuss the wreck.
Eckes asked his team "what was that about" in reference to Heim moving him out of the way. "I guess he wanted to go," the team said in response. Eckes then said, "I'll go twice as hard."
Busch fell out of the lead after he shut off his truck and failed to get it re-fired. This moved Eckes to the front row alongside Heim for a late restart. Once they took the green flag, Eckes took the lead for a moment.
Heim then used the bumper to move Eckes out of the way once again, but he couldn't get away for good. Eckes remained at his side as they headed onto the straight. Contact from Eckes then hooked Heim into the outside wall, destroying his truck in the process.
Kaden Honeycutt, who had nowhere to go, slammed into his Tricon Garage teammate. Layne Riggs also damaged his truck in the crash.
"They deserve to win half-a-million bucks today and I took that away from them," Eckes said after a fifth-place finish, per The Athletic's Jordan Bianchi.
"Obviously, it wasn't intentional to spin him or even hit him. I was just trying to get in line and misjudged it, and he ended up wrecking pretty hard. I feel pretty small right now about that."
The opinions of this incident varied. Some said Eckes just dumped Heim. Others expressed the opinion that Eckes just tried to get to the bottom of the track.

Honeycutt didn't particularly assign blame to either driver. He said he just saw this as a renewed rivalry between two longtime competitors and history repeating itself.
"I don't really know what in the world those two were doing," Honeycutt said after exiting the care center. "But it definitely trickled down to us and a couple other trucks."
