Will Kyle Busch Tie Richard Petty's Record at the Toyota Owners 400?

The last time Kyle Busch won the Toyota Owners 400 was in 2018, and when the NASCAR Cup Series goes to Richmond Raceway on Sunday, the Joe Gibbs Racing driver is hoping to rack up his sixth victory at the Virginia Cup race.

This year, Busch is one of the favorites to win the Toyota Owners 400, and if he can get it done on April 3, he'll be tied with Richard "The King" Petty for most Toyota Owners 400 wins.

Coming off disappointing performances at Circuit of the Americas and Atlanta Motor Speedway, Busch has three top-10 finishes in 2022 (sixth at the Daytona 500, fourth at Las Vegas, and seventh at Phoenix). If Busch can race to his first win of the season this weekend, it will mark the 60th Cup win of his career.

First run as the Richmond 200 back in 1953, the Toyota Owners 400 was moved to Darlington Raceway in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Alex Bowman is the Richmond race's defending winner.

Here's a look at a few of the drivers who the folks over in Las Vegas are riding high on heading into Sunday's Cup race.

Richard Petty Is the King at Richmond

Richard Petty won the Toyota Owners 400 a record-breaking six times (1961, 1967, 1971, 1972, 1973, and 1975). Three of the years that he won the Virginia NASCAR Cup Series race — '71, '72, and '75 — Petty also won the Cup title.

Do It for Dale

Dale Earnhardt and Dale Earnhardt Jr. are the winningest father-son duo at the Toyota Owners 400, with each racing to three victories. Dale Sr.'s wins came in 1985, 1987, and 1991, while Junior earned his Ws in 2000, 2004, and 2006.

Chevy Dominance

Chevrolet is the winningest stock car manufacturer of the Toyota Owners 400, with 22 wins to its name. Ford is in second place with 15 wins, while Dodge ranks third with eight wins.

Joe Gibbs Racing Runs Richmond

Joe Gibbs Racing has the most wins at the Toyota Owners 400 with nine, while the now-defunct Petty Enterprises is close behind with eight. Hendrick Motorsports has six wins, and is also the most recent team to score a victory at the spring race at "America's premier short track," thanks to Alex Bowman.
