First Baseman's "Over-The-Wall" Diving Catch Made Him a Viral Sensation

Cole Moore has probably attempted the high-flying, over-the-wall foul ball catch 100 times. Or at least two times.

After noticing the incredibly short wall beyond the first base dugout, the Dallas Baptist University first baseman made it his mission to catch one. All he needed was the perfect pop up to give him the chance to set the Internet on fire and appear on ESPN.

?Moore finally got his chance and made one of the more incredible catches of the college baseball season against Indiana State on Sunday.

DBU beat Indiana State in extra innings on Sunday at the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament to advance to the NCAA Tournament. They did so by scoring 12 runs, but the play everyone couldn't stop talking about was first baseman Cole Moore's incredible catch.

?When an Indiana State hitter popped a ball up into foul territory with the game tied 6-6 in the bottom of the ninth inning, Moore sprung into action. This was it. His moment had arrived.

Moore peeked to see where the fence was as he was sprinting then leapt over the wall like a mountain lion pouncing on its prey. Somehow, he caught the ball and somersaulted all in one swift motion. It's not often you see a first baseman, who are usually slower power hitters, make a grab like that.

What's hilarious is Moore actually attempted the same diving catch just a few days prior against Valparaiso. He came up short and nearly head-butted a cement pole in the process:

The video of Moore's catch went viral. CBS, MLB and ESPN's SportsCenter social media accounts posted the video. Viewers couldn't believe it and neither could Moore's teammates when it happened.

"After I made that catch, I told all the guys that, 'That one was for all the haters out there, that said I shouldn't have dove for the first ball,'" Moore told The Dallas Morning News. "I just had to make the play for them this time."

Dallas Baptist will look to make some noise at the Fort Worth Regional of the NCAA Tournament against Oregon State, TCU and McNeese State. You can bet Cole Moore will be putting his body on the line to make any catches he can.
