Florida State University celebrated the 50th anniversary of women's teams last year with a year-long tribute to the dominance of the Seminole women over the last half-century.
Since 1968, the Florida State Seminoles have been killing it in women's athletics across 11 sports, winning a combined eight NCAA national championships in that time period. And the way they're trending, it seems like that number is only going to grow over the next few years.
FSU Women's Athletics
The school has had women's sports for longer than 50 years — since the early 1900's as the Florida State College for Women — but this marks the 50th anniversary of continuous FSU women's athletics.
The Seminoles have been well rounded in all women's sports, bringing eight championships to Tallahassee in five different sports, and with three in the last five years, there's a good chance they build upon those numbers in the coming years.
The women's softball team has been one of the most successful in across men's and women's FSU athletics, winning three championships since 1981. Their first two titles came as part of the Association for Intercollegiate Athletics for Women in 1981 and 1982. In 2018, the 'Noles won their first NCAA Women's College World Series for their third overall championship.

The FSU women's soccer team found quite a bit of success as of late as well. They first became an FSU varsity sport in 1998 and have appeared in the NCAA Tournament every season since 2000, all but two seasons in program history. Head coach Mark Krikorian took over in 2005 and has since led the team to two national championships (2014, 2018) and two national runner-ups (2007, 2013).
Though they haven't had the success like they did in the mid 1980s, Seminoles Track & Field has been excellent. NCAA women's track and field was founded in the early 80s, and shortly after, Florida State won the second-ever Outdoor Track and Field National Championship in 1984, then the third Indoor Track and Field National Championship in 1985.
The women's golf team also won an AIAW National Title in 1981 to round out FSU's total number of championships. But national titles aren't the only things that define the greatness of each women's program. They have done great things on and off the field, court, or any other playing area.
Soccer, softball, track and field, and golf have each won championships, but the other women's programs have been full of great student-athletes, too, with women's basketball, beach volleyball, cross country, swimming & diving, women's tennis, and the volleyball team each running great programs, winning ACC championships and making trips to each of their own postseasons.
With eight national championships in the last 50 years, I fully expect way more than eight in the next 50.
