AP Poll Reaction: Trap Games Spoil Seasons in Week 11, As Ole Miss and UNC Tumble

Without question this has been a very exciting college football season and also a very weird one as well. This past weekend was probably the strangest we have had. From trap games to unexpected blowouts to one of the greatest games of the season. We saw it all. To start things off, the TCU Horned Frogs had to rush their kicking unit on the field for a game-winning field goal as time expired. Then both the Michigan Wolverines and the Ohio State Buckeyes avoided trap game losses in the wake of their head-to-head showdown.

But the same could not be said for the Tennessee Volunteers and Ole Miss Rebels as both were run out of their stadiums. And lastly, the USC Trojans narrowly defeated the UCLA Bruins in arguably the best game of the year. And as you might expect, as a result there were a lot of changes in the AP Top 25 Poll. Let's check them out.

No. 13 Notre Dame Fighting Irish (Up 5 Spots)

I still think this is being very generous to a team who is rightfully the unofficial ACC Champion (beating both North Carolina and Clemson).

No. 15 Kansas State Wildcats (Up 4 Spots)

With a win this Saturday, or a Texas loss, the Wildcats will claim the second spot in the Big 12 title game.

No. 16 Florida State Seminoles (Up 4 Spots)

Another team that makes me question why their ranking is so high as they only have one quality win and three bad losses.

No. 25 UCF Knights (Down 8 Spots)

The UCF Knights followed last weekend's big win with a dud and are now on the outside looking in at the AAC title game.

No. 20 Ole Miss Rebels (Down 6 Spots)

The Ole Miss Rebels were also a dud on Saturday, losing their second straight game and third in their last four games.

No. 18 North Carolina Tar Heels (Down 5 Spots)

With a spot in the ACC title game already secured, the North Carolina Tar Heels showed some content as they were upset by the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets.

"New" to the Top 25

No. 24 Texas Longhorns

The Texas Longhorns continued their up-and-down season with a massive win over the Kansas Jayhawks propelling the Longhorns back into the AP Top 25.

Bedlam is probably not going to be played for a while and the Cowboys are going to feel this loss for quite some time.

  • The Michigan Wolverines and the Ohio State Buckeyes square off in a winner-take-all for the Big Ten East Division Title.
  • The Ole Miss Rebels look to bounce back from their trap game loss with a win over the Mississippi State Bulldogs.
  • The USC Trojans playoff hopes are on the line as they play host to the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.
  • The Washington Huskies and Washington Cougars square off in The Apple Cup.
  • The Oregon Ducks look to clinch their spot in the Pac-12 title game as they go on the road to play the Oregon State Beavers.
