When former Florida head coach Jim McElwain was fired there were talks about how his buyout would be divvied up and if he would receive any of it at all due to a potential firing with cause. However, we now know the official number on the buyout and it is not the full amount of almost $13 million:

And it appears that this information became available today because that's when athletic director Scott Stricklin signed it.
Interesting note on McElwain's buyout was that Mac actually signed the document on November 21.

Because of the death threats McElwain reportedly received, there could have been a case made to fire him with cause since he did not disclose the information to school officials asking for it. This would have been considered insubordination, one of the triggers for a firing with cause. However, the school tried to show some good will for the coach that got them to two SEC Championship Games by giving him some of his buyout anyway.
But it looks like McElwain will walk away with quite a hefty paycheck and get it stretched out over a pretty length period.
