Stetson Bennett's Girlfriend Aspires to Change Lives in the Medical Field

The 2021 Georgia Bulldogs were defined by defense. From Jordan Davis tearing it up in the trenches to Nakobe Dean wreaking havoc at linebacker to Derion Kendrick holding down the secondary, the Dawgs covered each level with a tenacity unlike any unit in college football.

The Bulldogs D deserved a lot of credit, but football games are won by putting points on the board, and Georgia's offense delivered. Quarterback Stetson Bennett lead the Bulldogs offense last season and has them thinking back-to-back titles in 2022, but his path to where he is now is unconventional.

Stetson Fleming Bennett IV was a two-star quarterback recruit out of Pierce County High School in Blackshear, Georgia. He joined the UGA football program as a walk-on in 2017 and didn't see a snap his first year on campus. The arrival of five-star QB Justin Fields in 2018 made Bennett reconsider his options, and he transferred to Jones County Junior College in Ellisville, Mississippi, where he threw for 1,840 yards and 16 touchdowns in 12 games.

He entered the portal again with intentions to sign with Louisiana, but once Fields decided to transfer to Ohio State, he returned to Athens and backed up Jake Fromm. Bennett assumed the starting role in 2020 following Jamie Newman opting out and poor play from D'Wan Mathis. He held onto the job until USC transfer JT Daniels took over at the end of the season.

Daniels entered the 2021 season as the starter until he went down with an oblique injury in the second game of the year against UAB. From that point on, it's been the Stetson Bennett show, and there's been no bigger fan than his girlfriend Cameron Liss.

Bennett is dating Georgia grad Cameron Liss. Liss is from Atlanta and earned degrees in biology and psychology as well as a minor in Spanish. She comes from a big family of Georgia alum.

Liss' dedication to helping people pushed her to attend medical school. During her time on campus, she volunteered at Mercy Health Center and Piedmont Athens Regional Hospital. She also went on a mission trip to do medical work in Guatemala as a sophomore and was a member of several student medical organizations.

Above all, Liss is passionate about helping others:

"My passion is finding the answers to questions that could help improve the lives of others. I believe that becoming a physician is the perfect way to accomplish this. With my curiosity, I am always asking questions, and I am constantly working to find the answers. As a physician, I can serve and impact others lives while simultaneously improving and fulfilling my own. Through volunteering at Mercy, I have seen the significant impact people have when they come together with the same goal to improve the lives of others. Over the past three years, I have seen patients come back time and time again with a better outlook on life, and I can't help but give part of the credit for their improvements to Mercy."

Her time wasn't solely spent dong medical work, however. She was also involved in her sorority, studied abroad in Spain, frequented essential Athens restaurants and, of course, never missed a home football game.

It's unclear when Bennett and Liss started dating, but the Mailman's post wishing her a happy birthday on his Instagram account makes it seem they linked up sometime in 2020.

"Happy birthday sweetheart! This past year has been a roller coaster for both of us and I thank God that we were by each other's side through it all. Now let's go grab some good food and celebrate. #lilshawty#dm#fun"

Other than making appearances on her football player boyfriend's accounts, Liss keeps her social media private and likes to refrain from the spotlight.

As for Bennett's play on the field, he's been a reliable starter for head coach Kirby Smart. The QB helped lead the Dawgs to wins over every SEC opponent they played last year, with the victories over Auburn and Tennessee being especially sweet.

Bennett has done what any coach wants in a quarterback by taking care of the ball. He only threw seven interceptions compared to 29 touchdowns in 2021. He may have inherited some ball skills from his late grandfather Buddy Bennett, who played quarterback for South Carolina from 1958 to 1960.

Liss joins the Mailman's parents Stetson Bennett III and Denise Bennett as Stetson's loudest cheerleaders. No matter if it's a regular season matchup or the SEC Championship Game against Alabama, Liss and the Bennett family bleed red and black.
