HS Player Kicks Ball to Teammate for Incredible Interception

Even the best cornerbacks and safeties of all time probably never accomplished what one Texas high school linebacker was able to pull off in an actual game. Deion Sanders, Charles Woodson and Darrelle Revis would probably drop their jaws in disbelief at this one.

Hank Makerney, a linebacker for Kaufman High School in Kaufman, Texas, dropped back in coverage as the opposing quarterback let a pass fly down the middle of the field. When he didn't have enough time to turn his entire body around, he executed an unbelievable soccer-type kick to boot the ball up into his teammate's hands.

Something tells me Messi would be proud.

How did he make that look so easy?

Makerney uses his instincts to kick the ball to teammate Izaiha Starling, who pulls down the incredible interception. Let's not overlook the fact that he did it with his left leg, too.

I've got a few thoughts on this ridiculous play. For starters, I don't think I've ever seen this on a football field. Not in the NFL, college football and definitely not in a high school football game.

Secondly, is this even legal? It appears referees allowed it to count, but Texas high school football may have different rules than other leagues.

From what I can gather, the legality of this play is up for debate. NCAA rules prohibit kicking a loose ball and dole out a 10-yard penalty and a loss of a down to a team that does. This isn't a loose ball, though. It's not a fumble, it's a freaking pass in the air. And does that fact that he intentionally kicked it up change the call?

I don't know. I don't care. That kick save was better than any you'll see in the World Cup.

Kudos to Hank Makerney for thinking with his head. Or leg.
