Star quarterback Trevor Lawrence is set to be the crown jewel of the NFL Draft. Scouts believe he has MVP potential, and his time with the Clemson Tigers has made him one of the most coveted prospects in recent memory.
Lawrence has been an incredible player for his entire life, and his high school football career deserves recognition as well.
Trevor Lawrence High School
Lawrence established himself at Cartersville High School, a school near Atlanta, Georgia. His talent as a passer is on display during this nearly ten-minute clip. He puts on a clinic for most of it, hitting his wide receivers with ease.
In four years of varsity, Lawrence only lost a handful of games. More often than not, the Purple Hurricanes went undefeated and won the state championship. Lawrence’s lone postseason defeat was against Blessed Trinity High School, but even those brief struggles were not enough for any coach to be dissuaded.
In total, Lawrence threw for 161 touchdown passes and only surrendered 21 interceptions. He accumulated 13,902 passing yards and was Georgia’s Player of the Year during his senior season. His team’s head coach, Joey King, who doubled as an assistant coach at South Florida, helped mold Lawrence into a star.
It was time to move to the next level. Lawrence would move from Georgia to South Carolina to begin his next chapter with the Clemson Tigers.
Trevor Lawrence Clemson
Kelly Bryant took over, but he was not the answer. Lawrence took the reins as a true freshman and never looked back. Clemson continued their stranglehold on the ACC and even took home another College Football Playoff trophy after beating Notre Dame and Alabama in the 2018 season.
Lawrence added another 36 touchdowns in 2019, but Joe Burrow and LSU were too much to handle. The same thing happened in 2020; while Lawrence finished second in the Heisman Trophy race, the Justin Fields-led Ohio State Buckeyes were victorious in their CFP matchup.
Despite “only” winning one title, Trevor Lawrence has lived up to the hype. He will hear his name called on ESPN in this year’s NFL Draft, and a starting job awaits him when he enters the league.
