Bryce Aron Max Harper was born and raised in Las Vegas, Nevada, to parents Sheri and Ron Harper, alongside his brother, Bryan Harper. Harper was named High School Player of the Year by Baseball America in 2009 after a dominant spell at Las Vegas High School. He showcased his talents as a five-tool player.
After high school, Harper attended college at the College of Southern Nevada. He won the Golden Spikes Award and was named SWAC Player of the Year before declaring for the pros. Harper was drafted with the first overall pick in the 2010 MLB Draft by the Washington Nationals, kickstarting his professional baseball career by penning a five-year contract.
MLB Career
The star right fielder made his MLB debut in 2012 against the Los Angeles Dodgers. He won the National League Rookie of the Year and made his first of six All-Star Games. At the time, Harper, who was 19, was the youngest player ever to be named an MLB All-Star.
Harper spent seven years in D.C., earning a plethora of accolades during his tenure with the team. He launched 184 home runs and drove in 521 RBIs as a National, winning the National League Most Valuable Player award in 2015, the Silver Slugger award and the NL Hank Aaron Award.
The former NL MVP and NL Rookie of the Year joined the Philadelphia Phillies on a monstrous 13-year, $330 million contract, the richest contract in Major League Baseball history at the time, as a free agent. The deal included a $20 million signing bonus and will keep Harper in Philly through the 2031 season.
By the time Harper hits free agency, his kids might be getting ready for college, and his famous hair might be in the process of graying. While Harper's contract was impressive, his record was shattered by Mike Trout's latest deal with the Angels.
Despite all of his success on the diamond, Harper has yet to play in a World Series. To make matters worse, the Nationals managed to win a World Series just one year after Harper joined the Phils.
Personal Life
Bryce Harper is married to fellow Vegas native Kayla Varner. The pair have two children together, son Krew Aron Harper and daughter Brooklyn Elizabeth. Bryce and Kayla are living a luxurious lifestyle thanks to his career as a professional baseball player.
