Damar Hamlin 'Fully Cleared' to Return to Football Three Months After On-Field Collapse

Forget about mock drafts for a second — the best NFL news of the year just broke. Less than six months after collapsing on the field, Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin has been cleared for full football activities. The scary moment when Hamlin suffered cardiac arrest during the Bills' Monday Night Football matchup against the Cincinnati Bengals shocked the NFL and its fans. But this breaking news couldn't have come at a better time. With new talent entering the league in the coming week's NFL Draft, it's great to know that another player is ready for the season and to make a run at a Super Bowl appearance.

Bills general manager Brandon Beane made the announcement in a press conference Tuesday at the Bills' facility in Orchard Park, New York. The Bills' GM commented that Hamlin is in a "great headspace" to return to the field and that his status has been approved by multiple specialists.

Hamlin's remarkable recovery could not have been possible without the quick reaction by first responders at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center. Last month, it was unclear when Hamlin would return to the Bills' offseason workouts. But now, fans can rest easy that the 2023 NFL Players Association Alan Page Community Award winner is returning to action.

The former University of Pittsburgh defensive back is ready to play football as the Bills look toward another season that they hope ends in a deep playoff run. Beane and head coach Sean McDermott appear ready to get their squad in peak condition to make a run for the Lombardi Trophy — especially after their AFC rivals, the Kansas City Chiefs, took down the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LVII in Arizona. Sure, it's just a football game; but with Hamlin cleared, the Bills hope they can bring the Lombardi Trophy back to upstate New York.
