The Jets announced the news on Wednesday as the rival Patriots prepared for Super Bowl 60. The team said that Reich conducted two interviews before landing the gig. He will move back to the NFL after spending time at Stanford, both as an adviser and interim head coach.

Reich, 64, has spent decades in the NFL in a variety of coaching roles. He most notably served as head coach of the Indianapolis Colts between 2018-2022. He also spent most of the 2023 season as head coach of the Carolina Panthers.

Reich went 40-33-1 as head coach of the Colts, which included a 1-2 record in the playoffs. This tenure featured one season with Andrew Luck, who retired in stunning fashion ahead of the 2019 season. The second playoff appearance featured Philip Rivers as quarterback.

He went 1-10 as head coach of the Panthers.

Reich achieved the most success as offensive coordinator of the Eagles in 2016-2017. The offense ranked seventh in yards and third in points during the 2017 season as Carson Wentz played at an MVP-caliber level.

Once Wentz sustained a season-ending injury, this offense continued producing with backup Nick Foles leading the way. The Eagles won the top seed in the NFC and then beat the Falcons and Vikings to reach the Super Bowl. They then capped off the year with a win over the Patriots to claim the Lombardi Trophy.

"Frank has a rare combination of experience, creativity, and calm under pressure," head coach Aaron Glenn said. "He's lived this game from every angle — as a quarterback in this league and as a coach who's led offenses at the highest level.

"He is unique in his ability to see the game for what it is right now and adapt when appropriate. Frank understands offense and how to utilize the strengths of players. I am looking forward to how he will help this team have success."

Reich will now have the task of making the Jets offense more productive than it was this season. The team ranked 29th in total offense, last in passing offense, 10th in rushing offense, and 29 in scoring offense while starting Justin Fields, Tyrod Taylor, and Brady Cook at quarterback.
