Baker Mayfield Makes Mom Cry With Beautiful Mother’s Day Letter

Cleveland Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield is a bad, bad man. On the football field, he's brilliant. Off it, he's already made a huge impact in the Northeast Ohio community in just one year. A lot of credit for all of it belongs to one person.

The saying "behind every great man, there's a great woman" couldn't be more true, and Mayfield's rock is his mother, Gina Mayfield. So in honor of Mother's Day, ESPN made the former Heisman Trophy winner from the Oklahoma Sooners write and read a letter for the special day.

Mayfield, the former No. 1 pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, had no idea that his mom was in the next room the entire time, which created a beautiful moment.

A native of Austin, Texas, Mayfield was certainly surprised to see his mom come out from the next room, but still very happy nevertheless. The letter itself was great, yet it was even better because he got to read it to her without him even knowing for Mother's Day.

"Hey Mom,

"Words cannot describe how thankful I am to be able to call you my mother. Being the younger brother, and seeing how you raised Matt so well, and then also using different approaches on me, there's no handbook on parenting. But if there was, you would be the author. The way you've shown unconditional love through every up and down, and a few self-inflicted mistakes along the way, you've never stopped believing in me. Pushing me to do more, and then always having a big-picture mindset to push through adversity.

"Speaking of adversity, one of my favorite memories is when you made the journey up to Norman in 2014, when absolutely everything was going our way, between the car wreck, the rental car, and the awful weather. Looking back on it, you never flinched. You were going to make sure your son was going to get to where he wanted to go to school.

"That's the type of love that I am so thankful for. That is the type of love that makes you so unique and special. Always putting others before yourself. You're a perfect role model and I'm so thankful to be your son. Happy Mother's Day, Mom!"

After a successful rookie season, the Browns QB is poised to take another step to help the organization reach the playoffs. You better believe Gina Mayfield will be behind him the entire way, too.
