Whether it's dropping an F-Bomb on live TV, or hitting back at the mayor of Cincinnati, he's not been afraid to speak his mind. And he's been able to back that up on the field as well. Travis was, for a while, the sole receiving option for the Kansas City Chiefs. While he plays as a tight end, he has the quickness and route running skills of a top class wide receiver. So it's no wonder that he has been able to lift the Lombardi Trophy twice. Many think Kelce is an acquired taste. He's got that frat-bro mentality that is beloved by some and abhorred by others. But that's probably the reason he's perfect for Saturday Night Live. He'll make a fool of himself and he won't care a bit.

Many Other Athletes Have Paved the Way at SNL

Fran Tarkenton was the trail blazer. Fran was the first QB to throw for 500 yards in a game, and the first athlete to take up hosting duties in Studio 8H. Over the years, Super Bowl winners such as Tom Brady and Peyton Manning have taken up the mantle. Michael Jordan, Bill Russell, and Carl Weathers have also hosted. And while MJ did technically act in Space Jam, Weathers is the one who went on to have a successful acting career.

It remains to be seen as to whether Kelce will be cringey or successful. But we're all at least going to watch his opening monologue to figure it out.
