Ellis originally played for Camden County High School in Brunswick, Georgia, but he has since moved to Edison High School in Miami. In addition to his duties on offense, Ellis has played some cornerback for his high school teams.
The coronavirus pandemic threatened to disrupt high school football, but Ellis was one of the most vocal opponents to any cancellations. He pleaded with the FHSAA on Twitter, and despite COVID-19 continuing to spread, Ellis was able to get his wish.

Arkansas, Colorado, Colorado State, FIU, Florida Atlantic, Georgia Southern, Kentucky, Maryland, Miami, Michigan, Michigan State, Mississippi State, North Carolina, Oregon, South Carolina, Syracuse, and Tennessee reached out to four-star wide receiver Syveion Ellis as well, but the Gators won out.
Interestingly, Ellis has left his options open and is still hearing from schools. He released a "final six" list that featured two of the Gators' rivals — the Florida State Seminoles and Miami Hurricanes. Might he opt to go to a different NCAA school in his new home state?
Syveion Ellis Highlights
As seen in his highlights, Ellis displays his ability to get past defensive backs and sneak through for touchdowns. He is impressively quick and has a height advantage over many players his age. It seems likely that he will remain committed to the Gators, so they should expect to see some offensive fireworks when Ellis arrives.
Football recruiting is difficult to master, especially in a pandemic. Florida continues to compete for a College Football Playoff spot, and players like Syveion Ellis can help make that happen.
The SEC is never going to be a cakewalk with Alabama and LSU present, but the Gators have positive momentum.
