Timothy Scott Couch grew up in Hyden, Kentucky and attended Leslie County High School, where he starred as an All-American football player and was named the state's Mr. Football.
He set multiple national and school records, including touchdown passes, passing yardage, pass completions, and completion percentage.
Couch was ranked No. 6 in ESPN's list of Best High School Athletes of All Time.
During his college football career at the University of Kentucky, Couch threw 74 touchdown passes and 35 interceptions, garnering national attention and earning First-Team All-SEC honors.
Following the 1998 season in Lexington, during which the Kentucky Wildcats star was a Heisman Trophy finalist and the SEC Player of the Year, Couch declared for the NFL Draft.

Tim Couch was selected with the first-overall pick in the 1999 NFL Draft by the Cleveland Browns with the hopes of becoming a franchise quarterback.
That was far from the case, however, as Couch managed just two wins during his rookie season. He threw 15 touchdowns and 13 picks in his first year and was sacked a league-high 56 times.
His second season in the league was shortened after he suffered a broken thumb, and missed the final nine games of the campaign. He then led the Browns to a 7-9 record in 2001, and won eight games in 14 starts in 2002.
The Browns returned to the playoffs in 2002, though Couch was sidelined from the contest due to a broken leg he suffered in the final game of the regular season.
Couch played in eight games for the Browns in 2003, his last season in the NFL. He would later spend preseasons with the Green Bay Packers and Jacksonville Jaguars, but failed to play in another regular season game.
Throughout his NFL career, Couch threw 64 touchdowns in 65 games, and was intercepted 67 times.
