Joe Mauer's Net Worth Stacks Up Against MLB's Richest

Who doesn't like a story about a local boy made good? That's the story of Joe Mauer's MLB career.

Born in Saint Paul — one of Minnesota's Twin Cities — the catcher and first baseman played his entire baseball career with the Minnesota Twins.

In a successful Major League Baseball tenure, Mauer made a lot of money. So let's take a look at the famed baseball player's net worth.

Early Life & Baseball Career

Joseph "Joe" Patrick Mauer was a star athlete at Cretin-Derham Hall High School in Saint Paul. It's actually the same high school fellow Twin Paul Molitor went to.

Mauer was such a skilled athlete that USA Today named him the High School Player of the Year in baseball (naturally) and football. Oh, and he was an All-State basketball player, too.

Mauer actually committed to playing quarterback at Florida State but decided to enter the MLB Draft out of high school.

That decision paid off. Maybe Mauer was influenced by the fact his hometown team had the first-overall pick. At the time, everybody was in love with pitcher Mark Prior, and many expected he would be the top pick. Instead, the Twins went with the local high school catcher, which worked out for both the team and the player.

Mauer made his MLB debut in 2004, but injuries limited him to 35 games. By 2005, though, he would be the Twins' catcher and a rising star.

In 2006, he won his first batting title by hitting .347. It made him the only catcher to ever win a batting title in the American League. Mauer would also make his first All-Star Game that season while winning his first Silver Slugger Award for good measure.

From 2008 through 2010, you could make the argument that Mauer was the best player in baseball. He made the MLB All-Star Game all three years while winning the Silver Slugger and the Gold Glove in each campaign as well.

In two of those seasons, he also won the batting title. That third batting title made MLB history, as no catcher had won it that many times before.

The 2009 season was a truly incredible year for Mauer. He hit a staggering .365, and a guy who traditionally didn't have a ton of power racked up 28 home runs. Mauer beat out Mark Teixeira and Derek Jeter of the New York Yankees for the American League MVP. He's the last catcher to be called the Most Valuable Player of the AL.

That MVP award also earned Mauer a big chunk of change, as he signed an eight-year contract extension worth $184 million. The Twins got a couple more strong seasons out of Mauer on the deal, as he was an All-Star in 2012 and 2013, and he won his last Silver Slugger in 2013.

However, 2013 was also the final season that Mauer suited up as a catcher. He had suffered a concussion in 2013, and the team was worried about him continuing to catch. So instead, he spent the rest of his career at first base and designated hitter.

While Mauer was still elite at getting on base, his lack of power and a dip in average made him less valuable than he was as a catcher. His last year would come in 2018, where he picked up his 2,000th-career hit and got behind home plate for one more pitch before announcing his retirement.

Joe Mauer Net Worth

Joe Mauer was one of the faces of baseball at the peak of his career and appeared in ads for Pepsi, Gatorade, and ESPN. He was also the cover athlete for two versions of MLB The Show on PlayStation.

You may remember the catchphrase, "Well played, Mauer," from the ads.

In his personal life, Mauer married local nurse Maddie Bisanz in 2012, with his Twins teammate Justin Morneau serving as a groomsman. Two MVPs in one wedding party? That's impressive. Most have zero!

Mauer and Bisanz fittingly had twin daughters, Emily Teresa and Maren Virginia, in 2013 and had a son Charles "Chip" Joseph, in 2018.

There was a time when Mauer seemed primed for the Baseball Hall of Fame, but the move off catcher probably rendered that moot. However, he still brought in a bunch of cash.

According to Celebrity Net Worth, Joe Mauer's net worth is $100 million. That'll buy you a lot of hair trimmers. But, of course, you've got to keep those sideburns impeccable.
