Cam Newton is the NFL's Undisputed Fashion King

I'm the furthest thing you can get from a fashion icon. Hell, I wear the same shoes everyday for months on end until my foot goes full Zion Williamson through the bottom of them. But when it comes to professional athletes, fashion is everything. What started with NBA players has moved into the NFL, and now, pregame and postgame attires are must-see television.

The cream of the crop amongst NFL players is undoubtedly former Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton. The 2015 NFL Most Valuable Player is the king of making us say "what in the hell is he wearing?" But honestly, Newton doesn't care at all. He's a fashionista of unparalleled proportions, but his Week 2 outfit caused social media to completely forget about his abysmal showing on Thursday Night Football in 2019.

Carolina lost to its NFC South division rival Tampa Bay Buccaneers, 20-14. Newton and Carolina's offense was abysmal, too. The Panthers QB finished 24-of-50 for 324 passing yards and rushed twice for zero yards. Explosive running back Christian McCaffrey was held to just 53 total yards on 18 touches, as Jameis Winston and company dropped Carolina to 0-2 on the young season.

But after the game, and even before, the buzz among fans wasn't about Newton's play on the field. It was about his outfit, and in particular, yet another head scarf.

Newton, who know plays for the New England Patriots, loves these things. He's worn quite a few over the years, and once again, fans rose to the occasion and roasted the former Heisman Trophy winner. Everything from a "Thelma and Louise" reference to calling him a 2019 version of "E.T." was on the table, and it was pure comedy when the former MVP showed up at Bank of America Stadium.

Oh, don't you worry. The tweets only gets better.

Week after week, Newton's outfits during the postgame press conference become the butt of every joke on Twitter. The fact that "Superman" hadn't won an NFL game since November 4, 2018 or scored a rushing touchdown since last October doesn't seem to matter anymore. But what he wears? Yeah, THAT'S what is important.

Never change, Twitter. And for that matter, Cam Newton should never change, either.
