That Time Nick Saban Danced the Cupid Shuffle to Win a Recruit

It doesn't take a genius to figure out college football coaches are a little crazy. Strike that, a lot crazy. Maybe that's just part of running a NCAA Division I football program worth hundreds of millions, if not billions, of dollars.

Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh once slept over at a recruit's house and went to high school with him the next day. Lane Kiffin, Florida Atlantic's football coach, has offered scholarships to a 6-month-old baby and an 11-year-old son of a former Heisman Trophy winner.

The craziest of them all — and I mean that in the most endearing way possible — might just be Alabama coach Nick Saban, who we know isn't even the real key behind the Crimson Tide's dynasty.

Take, for example, when Saban once wrote 105 recruiting letters in one day to New Orleans Saints star running back Alvin Kamara when he was in high school. Uh, stage five clinger much? By the way, he got his man.

The usual stone-faced Saban also hasn't been afraid to let his hair down and get his boogie on. Back in 2018, a video of Nick Saban dancing to the Cupid Shuffle emerged on social media and instantly went viral for many reasons.

Saban was on an in-home recruiting visit to three-star prospect Eddie Smith of Slidell, Louisiana. According to 247Sports, the defensive back and wide receiver from Salmen High School was ranked the No. 42 cornerback in the nation and No. 15 overall player in his home state.

Nick Saban Dancing the Cupid Shuffle

Nick Saban dancing is, well, exactly what you thought it might look like. Not exactly a whole lot of hips — forgivable because he underwent hip replacement surgery in 2019 — and a ton of awkwardness with his hands.

Apparently, Saban's dance moves were good enough to impress Smith. He accepted a scholarship to Alabama and as a freshman in 2018 was limited to a special teams role.

It's not often Nick Saban shows off his dance moves.

In 2014, Saban and his wife, Terry, were caught doing the Electric Slide while hosting Alabama football recruits at their home in Tuscaloosa.

He also got his jiggy on (or at least attempted to) after Alabama beat Michigan State in the 2015 Cotton Bowl semifinal before going on to beat Clemson in the national championship game.

And here's a video of Saban doing The Wobble from 2016. I guess that's called Wobbling. I don't know.

He apparently has done the Cupid Shuffle before, though. Seriously Nick, mix it up a bit.

There is reportedly one more hilarious video of Saban dancing during a karaoke gathering that the public hasn't seen, which former assistant Lane Kiffin said he has saved. Let's just pray it's some sort of Fortnite dance or a wall twerking video after one too many drinks and Kiffin gives the people what they've been waiting for.
