Will Velveteen Dream Succeed on WWE’s Main Roster? Count On It.

Velveteen Dream is one of the most popular wrestlers in all of WWE. From using his time on Tough Enough after spending time competing for Maryland Championship Wrestling (MCW), Patrick Clark Jr. landed a spot on WWE NXT as a patriotic character.

However, this did not get any stream.

After spending time away from television, he was totally repackaged as a mixture between Prince and Goldust, known as The Velveteen Dream. The Velveteen Dream gimmick started off as a heel, with his first major feud against Aleister Black culminating on a match at NXT TakeOver: WarGames.

The Dream then commenced feuds with Kassius Ohno and Johnny Gargano, and competed in one of the best matches in 2018 for the NXT North American Championship. This match also included Ricochet, Lars Sullivan, EC3, Killian Dain, and was won by Adam Cole.

Velveteen Dream started to gain popularity from the wrestling fans due to his outlandish persona, and he was able to use this popularity to gain an NXT Championship spot against Tommaso Ciampa at NXT TakeOver: WarGames II. Dream was unsuccessful, but won the WWE Network’s When Worlds Collide Tournament to pick any champion of his choosing.

Dream picked Johnny Gargano, and was able to successfully defeat him for the NXT North American Championship.

Velveteen Dream has successfully defended the title against Roderick Strong, Matt Riddle, Buddy Murphy, and Tyler Breeze, among others, making him the longest-reigning NXT North American Champion since the inception of the title.

The Washington D.C. native has continued to be one of the biggest attractions in professional wrestling, and has morphed from someone with a developmental contract to one of the top names in NXT.

The next move seems to be the WWE Main Roster, but Triple H may decide to give him the NXT Championship before he goes to either WWE Raw or SmackDown Live. WWE superstars John Cena, Shawn Michaels, and even Hulk Hogan, have said their praises about The Velveteen Dream, and there is no doubt that a promising future is in store on the main roster.

Whether he will be as successful on the main roster is the burning question, but fans have high expectations for The Velveteen Dream.
