The NFL's Final 4 Have Only One Goal: Win Thousands of Free Beers

The National Football League is building toward another incredible finish as the four highest-scoring teams in the league remain heading into championship weekend. The Kansas City Chiefs, New England Patriots, Los Angeles Rams and New Orleans Saints are alive in the NFL playoffs, but only one of them will bring home the ultimate prize. And no, I'm not talking about the Lombardi Trophy.

When the final two teams meet in Atlanta for Super Bowl LIII, the jackpot will be much more important than some shiny football. This year's grand prize comes in a blue aluminum can that reads 'Bud Light,' and the Super Bowl winner will earn enough beer for their entire city.

Last year, Eagles offensive lineman Lane Johnson promised the city of Philadelphia with free beer if their team won the Super Bowl. The kind folks at Bud Light heard about his promise to Eagles fans, and they doubled down by offering to pay for the party.

Well, after the Philadelphia Eagles won Super Bowl LII over the New England Patriots, "The City of Brotherly Love" was doused in booze for winning the big one. Keeping their promise, Bud Light offered free bar at bars and taverns along the champion's parade route in what hoped to be the biggest Super Bowl celebration ever. Much to the dismay of Philadelphians, only about 700,000 people showed up.

Well, the company is back again to spoil the victors with free beer for the entire city.

The first of two conference championships is set for a Sunday, January 20 with a 3:05 p.m. ET kickoff between the Rams and Saints inside the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans for the NFC Championship. The second, scheduled to begin at 6:40 p.m. ET, pits the Patriots versus the Chiefs in Arrowhead Stadium with the AFC Championship on the line.

Not only will a berth in Super Bowl 53 from Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta be on the line, but enough beer to quench the thirst of some crazy fans is on the table, too.

Bud Light is no stranger to NFL-related promotions. The most notable was the Bud Light Victory Fridges, which remained locked until the Cleveland Browns managed to win their first game in almost two years early in the 2018 season. Every year, the company also creates special edition Bud Light cans for almost every NFL city, including a one-of-a-kind green can celebrating the Eagles' Super Bowl win from last year.

So, just how much beer would Bud Light need to bring with them for an entire city to have a drink? According to the most recent U.S. census data, well, it's a lot.

Populations by City, U.S. Census Bureau

Kansas City, MO — 459,787

Boston, MA — 617,594

Los Angeles, CA — 3,792,621

New Orleans, LA — 343,829

Bud Light may not be the drink of choice for all 3.7 million people in Los Angeles, but that's still a lot of light beer potentially on the table. No matter how much they load up, a heck of a lot of fans will be in line for a good time should their NFL team manage to cap their season with a win, hoist the Lombardi Trophy, and down quite a few cold brews to celebrate.
