As of this past Saturday, Texas Tech relieved head coach Kliff Kingsbury of his position leading the program after three-straight losing seasons. So now, he is single, so to speak, and looking for a new gig in college football.
Even before the Ryan Gosling look-alike took the head coaching position with the Red Raiders, he was considered one of the best offensive coordinators in the country. With his resume building elite offenses with his patented Air Raid attack, it would be crazy for the Auburn Tigers not to bring Kingsbury to Alabama.
The 39-year-old coach was along for the ride with head coach Kevin Sumlin at both Houston and Texas A&M. Kingsbury helped developed Heisman Trophy winning quarterback Johnny Manziel, and he morphed the Houston Cougars into one of the nation's most high-powered offenses.
Kingsbury is going to be a hot commodity no matter where he goes, the question is where could that be? One place could, and really should, be Auburn.
Is there any doubt after an ugly Iron Bowl loss to the Alabama Crimson Tide that Auburn desperately needs some fresh ideas on offense? Besides a few trick plays here and there, the Auburn offense was stagnant as they had been the entire season.
A major part of that was the Alabama's defense, but even when they did move the football, they couldn't do much with it.
Gus Malzahn refuses to say whether or not changes will be made on his staff, but hearing another "no comment" pretty much means the same thing as 'yeah, I will be making some changes.'

Malzahn needs to turn over his play calling duties to a real offensive coordinator and a real quarterback coach. That's where Kliff Kingsbury fits perfectly, because he can do both. He is an excellent play caller, and one of college football's top developers of quarterback talent. Look what he did with current Kansas City Chiefs, and former Texas Tech quarterback, Patrick Mahomes — The second-year pro is in the running for the NFL's MVP award and looks like he may even take the Chiefs to the Super Bowl.
Any team would be lucky to have Kliff Kingsbury as their offensive coordinator.
Gus Malzahn needs someone to come in and do the things that Kingsbury does if they want to contend against Alabama and Georgia for an SEC title, because what we all saw Saturday looked like a high school team trying to find an identity.
Kingsbury has also been in the SEC before, and he's seen how to beat the conference's elite coaches, mainly Nick Saban. If Gus Malzahn is smart, he'd be making this call before someone else snags him.
