Steve Nash's Net Worth: How the Nets Coach Built a Hall of Fame Fortune

MVSteve. Two Time. Nashty.

These are the nicknames Basketball Reference lists for all-time great point guard Steve Nash.

They fit nicely, but I have some to offer of my own: The Guru of Flow, the Phoenix point god, the Canadian Sensation, Steve.

Nash's remarkable basketball career crossed borders, crossed ankles, twice earned him the honor of the NBA's best player, and secured a large stack of cash.

Early Life & High School

Stephen John Nash's birth place is Johannesburg, South Africa. As a baby, his family moved to Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada and later settled in Victoria, British Columbia. His mom, Jean, is Welsh, and his dad, John, is English. He played ice hockey and soccer before focusing on hoops.

Nash initially attended Mount Douglas Secondary School, but finished up at St. Michaels University School. On the hardwood, he averaged 21.3 points, 11.2 assists, and 9.1 rebounds per game. As a senior, he led the Blue Jags to the British Columbia AAA provincial championship title and was named BC's Player of the Year.

Virtually unrecruited, Nash accepted a lone scholarship offer from Santa Clara University.

Santa Clara

Under head coach Dick Davey, Nash accelerated the Broncos to success. As a freshman, he led an upset over No. 2 seeded Arizona in the first round of the 1993 NCAA Tournament. Nash sealed the game for the WCC tournament champs with six straight free throws in the last 30 seconds. Santa Clara fell to Temple 68-57 in the second round.

Nash propelled SC to the NCAA Tournament again in 1995 and '96.

After four successful years that saw him gain in national recognition, Nash declared for the 1996 NBA Draft.

NBA Career & Earnings

The two-time MVP has endorsements with MDG Computers, Raymond Well watches, Vitamin Water, Clearly Canadian bottled water, and Nike.

The eight-time All-Star is a well-known soccer aficionado. In addition to playing often, he's been a co-owner of Vancouver Whitecaps FC since the team joined Major League Soccer in 2011. He also has a stake in Spanish club RCD Mallorca. Nash formed a close friendship with Dallas teammate Dirk Nowitzki over their soccer fandom.

The former professional basketball player served as general manager of the Canadian men's national basketball team from 2012-19.

Brooklyn Nets

The Brooklyn Nets hired Nash as their head coach on September 3, 2020. He's done well in his first season managing Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving, and James Harden, leading the team to the No. 2 seed in the Eastern Conference in the 2021 NBA Playoffs. He previously worked with Durant as a team-consultant for the Golden State Warriors.
